Supporting Goods

I was in a hurry at the grocery checkout. Guests were arriving soon…and I wasn’t ready. :( The customer ahead of me was pretty grumpy and it only got worse when she realized the checker had forgotten to charge her for an item after she had already paid up. Th crankiness cranked up to an even higher volume. The woman was really distressed and the checker looked so uncomfortable. So…I offered to pay for the item. The checker looked relieved. The customer was still yelling at the checker. Finally the checker  said quietly,’Maybe you could just say thank you.’ That totally disrupted the customer’s yelling. She looked shocked. Then sheepish. Then said thank you, grabbed the item and left. I thought I was helping the customer [and myself get out of there faster] but when the checker blessed me several times…I realized I had it wrong all along. Merry Christmas Lloyd!
