I saw such generosity and kindness last week in Dharamsala, India where we were scouting for a shoot in April. I could never have imagined a Tibetan monk rocking it as a camera operator. But he did. The entire team that works with His Holiness the Dalai Lama graciously and generously make all things easy. How lucky for our team.
I was leaving the Santa Barbara Film Festival and met a lovely woman named Helen. She was wearing the coolest belt. I complimented her on it and said I would love to buy one from her friend in Canada who makes them…we exchanged information. Two months later I get a mystery package in the mail with the coolest belt! Helen doesn’t want me to pay for it but to pay it forward with someone else. The world can seem so…
My 83-year-old Mom has been walking two miles, three times a week with a neighbor picking up trash along the roads. She had surgery this week to replace a knee…the steps are a little slower and with a walker right now…but she can’t wait to get back on the road making her neighborhood even prettier by picking up the litter.
We had a great opportunity to start the New Year off with a smile! We were at breakfast. A mom and her young adult son were at the next table having an intense conversation. They were not happy and put out the cash for their bill. We intercepted the waiter and asked him to give them back their money and tell them that someone wanted to buy them breakfast and wish them a Happy New Year. It really changed the…
We joined a great community sing- along and fireworks show at the beach. When I wasn’t taking photos of the amazing fireworks I took photos of the even more amazing people…little girls twirling in Santa hats and pink tutus, young lovers having their first Christmas together…then I gave them my phone so they could email the photos to themselves. They were delighted…me too. Merry 16th Christmas together Lloyd!
My son joined in the Good for Lloyd’s Christmas present. We were walking through our wacky Christmas light neighborhood when neighbors offered free hot chocolate – he took the drink and bought their last four Christmas cookies. Just then a little girl came up wanting a cookie – she was crestfallen to see they were all gone. My son gave it to her. Big smiles all around.
I was in a hurry at the grocery checkout. Guests were arriving soon…and I wasn’t ready. The customer ahead of me was pretty grumpy and it only got worse when she realized the checker had forgotten to charge her for an item after she had already paid up. Th crankiness cranked up to an even higher volume. The woman was really distressed and the checker looked so uncomfortable. So…I offered to pay for the item. The checker looked relieved. The…
SO….does it count if you’re really really trying to do a good for a person but the weather keeps interfering? Despite the drought in California, a video shoot to help friends has been canceled TWICE because it was raining cats and dogs and maybe even small elephants. We’re going to try again…but in the meantime I hope this can count as part of my Christmas present to Lloyd…i will get it done…eventually – weather permtting
I will Give the Gift of Good to my husband for Christmas by posting 10 acts of Good in his name. This will mean more to him than anything else I can think of. He is such a great guy and will love looking up the challenge and seeing the ripple of Good that happened as a gift to him! PS he is difficult to buy for…so this is the best EVER! I llove you Lloyd! Merry Christmas!
Our friends started a great tradition that is a real gift to friends. They invite folks over on Thanksgiving weekend for Pie and Eggs. We eat leftover pie and they make great egg dishes. It is a time for friends to skip shopping and just enjoy each other’s company…after a great meal together we walk on the beach. ALL GOOD!
Our neighbors work together each year to give a great gift to anyone who wants to drive by and enjoy the lights and caroling…families work together on Thanksgiving weekend to put up strings of lights and amazing decorations – including a ferris wheel. Thousands of families drive and walk through the neighborhood each December night singing songs and wishing all happy holidays! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
